Happy Halloween everybody. I am baking cookies for "special ones" and then I am turning off the lights and pretending not to be home. Around here the big kids (without costumes) ruin the fun for the little ones. I don't even participate anymore................and that's sad.

That's too bad about the big "kids". People are a little too "gutsy" anymore, without a conscience.

I see it's a full moon tonight - full moon, Halloween, gain another hour at the bars . . . . not a good combination.

Daughter and I decided to stay home this year and pass out candy since a friend took the 3 grands out trick or treating. We had a grand total of 8 kids, 6 of which belonged to 2 friends. We had the yard decorated, a fire in the pit, tiki torches lit, a huge bowl of candy ready to go, and disappointment all around. We were glad to see the ones we had, but it's kind of sad really. When you stop and think about it, it's a crazy idea for a holiday, that of sending your little ones to ring the doorbells of strangers to ask for candy. Then the candy usually goes to work with one or the other of us to give to coworkers.

They said the stores have already moved the Halloween stuff over for Christmas. Let's hurry that next holiday in!

Hope all had a safe night, whatever your plans were. How'd our hockey team do??

One thing I am certain of, when my friend and I went Halloweening, we never went to any houses without at least one of us being known. As I think of it now comes the realization that since we stayed mostly here on this long block, the connection must have been more through me and my siblings and parents since he lived across the alley on Bowman where I don't recall any houses that we went to.

Happy All Saints Day! I'm happy already since I've turned all the clocks back! (Actually, it seems I always forget to reset at least one somewhere.)

November!

Regards,

We had more kids this year than last and went through about 1 1/2 bags of candy. Out of those kids though, there were only two groups that we knew, but it was fun. At 8 o'clock when the time was over, I went down and watched the second and third period of the hockey game; and watched the Inferno lose 10 to 2.

I thought that cell phones automatically changed time. I awoke and checked mine and it showed 6:05, so I went ahead and got up; to discover that all of our clocks that we had not yet changed also had the same time. So, it was actually 5:05! After being up a while the phone did change back one hour....oh well.

Hobby Lobby in Champaign has some of their Christmas items marked down 50% already! Amazing!

Looks like a great day to be outside. I plan to finally get out in the woods on the public land and hike a few miles.

I had two halloweeners before 5 PM. At about 8, my youngest grandson Christopher showed up and of course I answered the door for him. He's 13 but still likes to go Halloweening.

Shawn was sick and called for me to bring some Tylenol, and something for sinus, since Lauren had taken Connor halloweening. I took Connor's cookies over, knowing that since Shawn wasn't feeling well he wouldn't eat them. Connor called me this morning before church and said "bring me more cookies." Shawn was feeling much better.

It's a beautiful start to November here in Southeast Missouri. An extra hour of sleep, a good sermon at church, chicken for lunch and now it's time for a nap............and then I remembered Connor's request for cookies. How can a let a 2 year old down???

Sounds like we all are euphoric at the start of this month.

From what Hhop is saying, if your porch light is on, they (the Halloweeners) will come......As I said, though, I saw only one noticeable light on and a mostly empty street and sidewalks during those treating hours)

This morning I pedaled for only the fun of it, over to 63 to 263 to Coal Run (Hollow) Rd and back, about 13.7 mi. each way. That is a wonderful route for a bicycle from the IN line on, very acceptable shoulders in good shape. And on 63 the shoulders are wide enough for a semi. Only one Bowser came running and could have meant business around the bend in the road on 136 about a mi. E. of our wonderful Correctional Center. (I never can tell if there are guards up in the towers, does anyone know--how oats & beans & barley grow?)

I sure hope--as I bet we all do--that this sort of weather holds through this month.

Well, now to post at least one YAWN alert post on the Tuckbook.

I really did not plan beforehand stopping by Tuck's house, but I literally was in his neighborhood on errands and as I approached, I knew I saw him outside. Don't tell him, but I think initially he didn't recognize me as much as the bicycle with the blue crate on it. In the 3 and 1/2 years since he's seen me, I feel like I've been through the mill, yet, I feel OK, I'm just not one of those people who look like a "young 60".

And I hardly saw Hhop as he headed by going S. I am extremely impressed at his participating like that in what is, to me, the most demanding sport outside of boxing.

So, Scoots, hope work et al is coasting along nicely, and no flu bugs, etc; middle-child said that flu shot plus the other thing was painful! I wonder if it has to be a longer needle or something?

Have not heard very much in a while from my fellow '67ner, Mr. IAC. Mr. Tuck mentioned the local ham radio club activities already. He knows Don Russell. He also remembers the late Martin Perry. I forgot to ask if he had ever met or talked to Mr. IAC. Tuck's wife has a radio license, by the way.

GA I understand is getting into the holiday activities. Funny how the end of the year seems to sneak in when you think it should still be August.....

One of the strange but beneficial effects of watching an unplanned TV program, mostly something on PBS, is that after I see what suffering others have endured, it makes whatever I think is hard to deal with look like nothing but silliness, if that. There was a long show on 13 yr old Mary Phagan (sp) set around a real event (her murder) in 1913 in Atlanta GA and a young Jewish manager of the company she worked at was found guilty--unjustly--and was imprisoned but easily gotten out by a group who lynched him.

What people can do to people,,,,,can be just horrible.

Somehow it makes having to have an expensive wheel bearing replaced less of a big deal.

And with those bright and cheery thoughts, I wish you a happy evening, morning and afternoon.

We have a warming trend coming??? YAY!!! We'll have our Indian summer after all.

I see sun and warm temperatures in the next week. Bike riding and hiking for sure. Yard work, oh, the possibilities are almost endless. Now maybe I can put the Halloween decorations away. After all, we only got to put some things out that day! I think the longest time any one item spent in the yard or on the house was one week. The weather just did not cooperate, but thank goodness Halloween night was decent.

Every ad that comes on TV, I don't care what it's for, even Kleenex, the 3-year-old asks if we'll buy it for her for Christmas. Where do they get that stuff so early in life?

It's a beautiful day, started off chilly, but looks nice now. Enjoy.

Sad to say edanville.com is off now. Last year it did come back. Not so sure about this time.

Might end up hanging out here more,,,,if that's possible.

Enjoy.

(or do you pronounce it "roo-lay" like the former did?) I must admit I do pronounce croquette as "crow-kay"....

So, do you have any memories of wish bones? And do you think a towel should be washed after one use? And if you could order a TV show to your liking, what kind would it be and would there be famous actors in it?

And does our #2 forum poster have a special day coming up anytime soon?

I have to pedal. You never know when the last sunny, warm pedal-day is going to be. I wouldn't mind if it stayed mild through the holidays,,,which has happened before...

So, off to see the Wal-Ard, the Wonderful Wal-Ard of Sam.

[who's our #2 poster?]

Beautiful, beautiful weekend. It was everything it should have been and more. We even had a mini neighborhood gathering in the front yard last night for hot dogs and chips around the fire pit. We live within 10 feet of each other, sort of, and hadn't seen each other since the last front yard fling some time back in September, due to the weather. Crazy. It was good to see everyone last night, but we had all put so much into our days that we were back in our respective houses by 8:30 p.m.

Think I'll hop in the truck and come see my mom this Wednesday. Bring a couple of grands with me. Missing mom, son and Danville.

I had a dream last night about an old friend who's been through a rough time. He and his family moved to Arizona in the hopes of retiring nicely, only to find out he has some irreversible health problems. It was a good dream where I got to see him again and hug him and laugh with him. Any dream interpreters among us? At the very least, I'm going to send him a card telling him I miss him.

Enjoy this wonderful week of good weather.

..................You!! (post totals)

How long ago did I, Dr. Quack, check in to interpret a dream??....Well, it has to be since late June '06 (when we started here). That may as well be 15 or 25 yrs. ago the way my memory works (or doesn't work) now.

I think the import of your dream is a normal representation of the manifestations of us "modern" homo sapiens who live moment to moment on the cusp of such potential evil, misfortune, tragedy, (whatever term one has for it) that we have to keep the pointless worry in check by having our mind(s) ignore or hide from those endless fears THOUGH they can release themselves via a dream, sort-of an escape valve-if you will, where one can only hope that most of them remain blissfully unrecallable.

(note to all the battle-ax, "know-it-all" English teachers, etc; out there: how was that for a long, yet "correct" sentence? huh?)

However, to attempt to be a little less technical about it, I'd say you worry subconsciously about Dr. Quack's health--both mental and physical (which well we should!!) and you'd like to round up all your loved ones in D'ville and move them out to Arizona, fall in love with a real cowboy and live happily ever after!

How's that? That'll be one nickel, please.......Oh, just a minute. Today is a gray Monday. That means there's a nickel-off sale today. So, there'll be no charge then. Come again, please.

Ah, it is so satisfying to know I've solved people's concerns, etc; Anyway, that's what I, Dr. Quack, believe! My advice, never let reality stand in the way!!

Now,,,I've been puzzled over a dream I've been having: I'm sharpening my 50 pencils per day as usual, but since I never have had the heart to throw out any pencil shavings, I'm running out of room for places to save them. ALL of the house had become jammed to the ceilings with pencil shavings (and a degree of lead dust--which I personally believe is a veritable 'Pete Fountain of Youth' to inhale) and the only spot left is near the commode. I guess I'm just toooo close to the situation to accurately diagnose myself as being a top-grade psyco..

JUST remember this if NOTHING else: Charlie Gibson and Charles Osgood are TWO different people! Thank you!

Okay, now that we've established my existence as #2 poster, is there a special day coming up for me that I've forgotten about, or was that a rhetorical question?

Since I asked if Scoots had a special day coming up soon, over 48 hrs. have passed. The ceiling of about 30 seconds to recalling my point in asking the question is long gone.

Therefore, I'll have to plead "nolo contendere"(Latin for 'beware the perverts at the Roman public bathes) and send myself to bed early with only 1/2 a mini-pretzel and 15 rhetorical questions.

So, remember: You save big money, you save big money, when you shoplift at Menards.
